Frequently visiting the B station's small friends often hear such a sentence: the curtain screen eye!

In fact, I want to add a Buff for my eyes. I only need to use OLED as the material of the mobile phone or TV.

A large number of studies at home and abroad have shown that OLED screens have a more significant advantage over LCD screens in terms of health.

At least at this stage, mobile phones and TVs equipped with OLEDs are the devices with the least eye damage. Every family with children should choose an OLED display.

We can even say that choosing an OLED device is tantamount to choosing health.

The traditional screen injury principle is revealed

Two factors that cause "eye injury" with conventional LCD/LED screens are blue light and flicker.

Let's start with Blu-ray.

Blue light is a high-energy visible light that is widely believed to have harmful effects on eye discomfort and retinal damage, and is a factor in diseases such as cancer, diabetes, heart disease, obesity, and insomnia.

Blue light is the highest energy wavelength of visible light. This energy can penetrate the back of the eye through the natural filter of the eye.

The amount of blue light exposure we get every day through the use of digital devices has increased dramatically, which has caused permanent damage to our eyes. The effects of blue light are cumulative and can cause eye diseases such as macular degeneration.

Especially in children, the retina is very fragile and vulnerable to blue light. We can see from the picture below, the band of blue light damage to the human eye.

Studies have also shown that exposure to blue light before bedtime actually inhibits melatonin secretion and significantly delays deep REM sleep. Health is therefore adversely affected. In the long run, this can lead to cognitive decline and the development of chronic diseases.

In particular, the Blu-ray damage of smartphones is the top of all devices. Because the distance between the use of mobile phones is often closer to other electronic devices, and more inclined to use in the dark, the damage is often higher.

Flashing can also cause "eye injuries."

Blinking is a visible change in brightness between periods displayed on a video display. It is especially suitable for cathode ray tube (CRT) TVs, computer monitors, and refresh intervals for plasma computer screens and televisions.

The switching light source causes flicker. The faster the switching speed, the faster the screen flickers. DC dimming is a technique for adjusting the brightness by directly controlling the current on both sides of the light-emitting device.

Most LCD screens use DC dimming. DC dimming itself is a very simple method. But it has obvious shortcomings. Due to the different wavelengths of the three primary colors, DC dimming causes an inevitable color shift when the brightness is extremely low, which leads to eye fatigue.

The traditional LCD/LED screen, no matter which dimension it is, is not the best choice for health.

Interpretation of OLED eye protection research at home and abroad

However, both domestic and foreign research shows that OLEDs are actually more eye-catching than LCDs.

In March of this year, Beijing Tongren Hospital affiliated to Capital Medical University made relevant tests on OLED eye health. The test includes blue light emission test, subjective visual fatigue-visual comfort test, objective visual fatigue-eye adjustment force detection for OLED TV and QD-LCD TV.

Test results show that OLED TV damage indicators are lower than QD-LCD TV.

The conclusion is that OLED TVs have less blue-emitting emissions than QD-LCDs, and have less impact on visual fatigue.

Therefore, the long-term viewing of OLED TV rear view fatigue will be much lower than QD-LCD TV, eye health and safety is better.

In fact, not only on TV, but also on mobile phones.

In October 2018, a study from Tsinghua University in Taiwan showed that Apple's latest iPhone XS, XS Max OLED display is healthier than the LCD screen on the previous iPhone model.

As part of its research on "Danger against LED and white light", Tsinghua University in Taiwan ("Qingda") is composed of J. H. The research team led by Professor Jou has long advocated OLED lighting.

In 2015, J. H. Professor Jou has issued an appeal to consumers to understand the hazards of LEDs. Governments should develop new rules to force light-based products to express their spectrum.

The study compared two indicators between the iPhone7 with LCD display and the latest iPhoneXS Max with 6.5-inch OLED display.

The first one is Maximum Permissible Exposure (MPE).

This is a measure of the time the retina is exposed to inflammation after exposure to the screen. The test is based on a 100 lx light output. The iPhone 7 has an MPE of 288 seconds, while the iPhone XS Max has an MPE of 346 seconds, which means that OLEDs are more secure than LCDs.

The second indicator is Melatonin Suppression Sensitivity (MSS). This is a relative measure used to reveal the percentage compared to pure blue light inhibition, and 100% MSS is similar to observing pure blue light.

OLED performance is better - the MSS of the iPhone 7 LCD screen is 24.6%, while the MSS of the iPhone XS Max AMOLED screen is 20.1%.

In fact, foreign research has also shown this problem.

In February of this year, the US technology media REWA published a book called "Which One Is More Harmful To Eyes?" OLED or LED ? 》 (OLED and LED which are more harmful to the eyes) report.

The report concludes that OLEDs can reduce blue light.

A British independent quality inspection company called Intertek concluded that OLED lamps emit less than 10% of the blue light emitted by LED lamps of the same brightness and color temperature.

We can see the clue from the table below.

Another problem is the color display.

We all know that AMOLED displays are screens made of self-illuminating organic materials. It does not require a liquid crystal backlight because the pixels emit light self-illuminating as they pass through the organic material. Therefore, compared with ordinary LCD screens, OLEDs have higher display advantages such as contrast.

We can see the difference between the two in the picture below.

In the simplest terms, OLED shows black is pure black, LCD is actually gray. In the case where the LCD has too much difference in brightness and darkness on the same screen, there are phenomena in which the details of the dark portion are not clear and the highlights are overexposed, which affects the visual experience and causes visual fatigue.

Thanks to the self-illumination technology, OLEDs can truly display "perfect black" and achieve infinite contrast. The ability to independently control each pixel allows each detail on the OLED TV screen to be fully reflected without the effects of overall picture brightness.

The pure color display of OLED is actually more comfortable for the human eye and suitable for long-term use.
