Renesas Electronics withdraws from the large-size LCD driver IC market 29th,Dec,2018

According to Japanese media reports, Renesas Electronics, the world's largest microcontroller maker, said it will withdraw from the large-size LCD driver IC market.

The LCD driver IC is an integrated circuit chip that controls the display mode of the liquid crystal display. Due to the economic downturn, the demand for LCD TVs has decreased, and prices have continued to decline. Therefore, the large-size LCD driver IC market for TVs is difficult to guarantee profitability in the future, so Renesas Electronics decided to withdraw from the market.

It is understood that Renesas Electronics may invest in the small and medium-sized panel market. In recent years, the demand for smartphones and tablets has become the main driving force for the growth of the small and medium-sized panel market in the world. Renesas Electronics believes that there will be more opportunities for small and medium-sized panel cutting.

Renesas Electronics released its 2011 financial report that the company suffered a loss of 62.6 billion yen due to the East Japan Earthquake and the European debt crisis. It has been in deficit for two consecutive years.
