The OLED market is about to break out, Merck accelerates the application of innovative materials 25th,July,2018

With the development and breakthrough of display materials, the consumer market is increasingly interested in OLED display. As a new type of flexible flexible display technology, OLED is widely used in TV, smart phones, tablet computers, signage display, and intelligence. In the field of wearable devices, its huge market space is gradually emerging. In addition, Chinese panel companies have successively invested in OLED production lines. At present, the 6th generation flexible AMOLED production line of BOE Chengdu has been mass-produced. Tianma Micro, Huaxing Optoelectronics and Hehui Optoelectronics have followed suit, and the Chinese OLED market has become more and more attractive.

At present, the main suppliers of OLED display materials are Merck, Idemitsu, Samsung, DuPont, Sumitomo, Corning, UDC, etc. Among them, Merck and Idemitsu account for more than 70% of the OLED materials market, and have become the mainstream supplier of OLED upstream materials. .

On the eve of the OLED market, Merck launched the new China Center for OLED Technology in the Shanghai Pilot Free Trade Zone on June 20. This is another OLED technology center established after South Korea and Taiwan. This also shows that Merck adheres to the customer-centric philosophy and shortens the time-to-market of its products by working more closely with its customers. The Merck OLED Technology China Center is equipped with a range of high-end test equipment and a clean, clean environment to help customers efficiently evaluate the reliability of OLED device design and verification solutions.

Previously, Merck has partnered with partners to launch a joint project to combine quantum materials as light sources and display components in OLEDs to develop new optoelectronic devices with lower production costs, ultra-pure colors and higher energy efficiency. The project has a total budget of 9.1 million euros, of which 5.5 million euros was awarded from the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) for the development of quantum materials for displays and lighting.

Organic light-emitting diodes, or OLEDs, have extremely thin effects and are highly efficient in design and can be applied to displays and produce high quality images. ELQ-LEDs using quantum materials in OLEDs can achieve high color purity and high energy efficiency at low production costs, and have stronger color intensity than LEDs or even OLEDs. The ELQ-LED project takes advantage of quantum materials as emitters. It also represents a systematic improvement of OLEDs, providing great potential for synergies between OLEDs and quantum materials, while potentially reducing production costs and optimizing chromatography.

In addition to Merck, partners involved in the project are partners such as OSRAM, Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Polymers, Augsburg University, Munich Ludwig Maximilian University and Oldenburg University. . In addition to researching quantum materials, partners plan to test and develop components, processes, materials and inks in a comprehensive manner.

It is reported that all parts of the project are printed using 3D printing technology to save resources and costs in the production process. Currently, partners are testing printed parts on displays and car taillights, and the research project is scheduled to end in the summer of 2020.

Recently, Merck also unveiled new high-performance LCD cell products under the Licristal brand: XtraBright, XtraBoost, and XtraBrilliant. The re-optimized LCD material has excellent contrast and ultra-high reliability. As a leader in next-generation display materials, Merck offers display manufacturers a full range of display products and solutions, as well as the development of high-performance liquid crystals, optical film materials, flexible display materials, and quantum materials.
